Retail Design Project

Due: Tuesday, October 24, 2006

Goal: To create a lighting design scheme for a jewelry store.

Format – Lighting plans, elevations, cut sheets, calculations.

Parameters –

Store in an enclosed shopping mall.

Showcases on either side lighted to 150fc

Be able to answer:

Who is your customer?

What are your target light levels – General? Display? Store Front?

What are you doing with lighting to attract customers?

How does lighting help customer to evaluate merchandise?

What is your lighting approach for:

Cases?

Ambient?

Decorative?

Perimeter?

Storefront?

• What is ambient light level?
• What is display light level?
• What is showcase light level?

How are you controlling light?

Suggestions:

State all assumptions. If you can not find photometrics on a fixture, make logical assumptions about efficiency. (So, a very inefficient fixture would not have a CU of .95)
